México (Estados Unidos Mexicanos)

Mexico is a country of southern North America and the third largest country in Latin America, after Brazil and Argentina. Mexican society is characterized by extremes of wealth and poverty, with a limited middle class wedged between an elite cadre of landowners and investors on the one hand and masses of rural and urban poor on the other. But in spite of the challenges it faces as a developing country, Mexico is one of the chief economic and political forces in Latin America. It has a dynamic industrial base, vast mineral resources, a wide-ranging service sector, and the world’s largest population of Spanish speakers—about two and a half times that of Spain or Colombia. As its official name suggests, the Estados Unidos Mexicanos (United Mexican States) incorporates 31 socially and physically diverse states and the Federal District. (Cr. Britannica.com)

Geography of Mexico

I used a 10 area division for the rich and complex geography of Mexico and wrote two detailed pages about them. If you are teaching third graders or under, I recommend just highlighting one or two areas as it is a lot of information. My students really loved The Mexican Trans-Volcanic Belt. (Cordillera Neo-Volcánica.) as it has volcanoes, ancient Aztec history and culture and Axolotls! ^ ^

For 4th Grade and up I created These Worksheets that are directly linked to the parts described below:

Part 1: Includes Baja California Peninsula. (Peninsula de Baja California), The Mexican Plateau. (Antiplano Mexicano), Eastern Sierra Madre. (Sierra Madre Oriental), Western Sierra Madre. (Sierra Madre Occidental) & Southern Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur).

Part 2: Includes The Mexican Trans-Volcanic Belt. (Cordillera Neo-Volcánica.), The Pacific Plain. (Llanura del Pacífico), The Atlantic-Gulf Coastal Plain. (Llanura del Atlántico-Golfo), The Southern (Chiapas) Highlands. (Tierras Altas del Sur (Chiapas) & The Yucatán Peninsula. (Peninsula de Yucatán).
