Intermediate Spanish Readers

Intermediate Spanish Readers: Students can read fluently but may need occasional reminders of sound combinations. Their vocabulary base is bigger so there is an increased awareness of what is being read in real time. Students can read longer and more complex texts that include the present, present progressive, past and future tenses. They can answer basic reading comprehension questions (using question words) with little support.

My heritage students (Native Spanish speakers) in Third to Sixth grade are usually in this level. Many of these students know how to communicate fluently in Spanish but many have not read enough to know how to spell the words correctly in Spanish. There is a lot of expressions like “Oh! That’s how you write that?!”

More to come!
